Remembering Things

There's a funny little story about some food that I forgot to write about...

Our travel partners, Emily and Ben were with us for lunch one day in Kotlas and told us about their breakfast that morning. (We had slept in).
Emily thought she ordered scrambled eggs and sausage but what she received a hard-boiled egg on a plate, cut in half, with mayonnaise spread all over the top of it and a slice of fried bologna on the side. We were cracking up at that while we were waiting for our lunch to be served.

Well, when Emily's plate was ready, she picked it up at the counter and came back to the table and sat down. I was like, hmmmm, Em, like pickles do ya? Her plate was 1/2 filled with little gerkin pickles. That was her 'cucumber salad' that she had ordered!

Oh, the joys of International travel!

When I was in Russia I started to order what looked like a yummy dessert/cobbler like dish. Turns out it was beets - yuck! I sympathize with your friend.

Too funny!

When we were in France, everything we ordered mysteriously had a fried egg on top of it. Even the pizza!

We didn't have too many food mysteries in Russia because our hotel was Canadian.

Love the story! We went to My My's on Old Arbat on our first trip and I had (what I thought was) a breadstick. Thankfully I'm one that likes to break things into smaller pieces because out came this brown mush. Apparently it was some kind of minced meat kind of breadstick. Between that and the mystery chicken I wound up eating dessert and had a bottle of water! :-)

Hi,
I just stumbled onto your blog yesterday. I am a grandmother of six, impatiently waiting for two little Russian boys to be added to be added to our family by adoption very soon. We live in Houston; our son and daughter-in-law, who live in St. Louis, are awaiting news of their court date. Their first trip to Vladivostok was made in early February.
Blessings as you wait,
Cheryl Fritsche

That's funny that they kept getting her order wrong. Some of the meals are very different than what you would expect!

By the way, I love the picture of your dog on the last post! Too cute!
