Keeping up the naps

Ok, you really thought I wasn't serious about keeping up with the blog right? Fooled ya!

Just when we thought nothing else could happen it did.
Kara again.
She awoke at 12:30 last night screaming and writhing (seemingly in pain) and soaking wet with sweat. She continued to scream/cry until 1:15 - STRAIGHT, NON-STOP. Then it continued throughout the night. Nothing would soothe her. She kept screaming, NoNONONONO... slapping her hands, kicking her feet - all over the place.
We put her in the bed with us and tried to comfort her. She would fall asleep for about 1/2 hour to 45 mins then the screams would start again.
I thought she had to go to the bathroom - possibly constipated.
At one point during the night we were convinced she was possessed!! kidding!
She was not responsive at all. We kept asking, Where does it hurt? Where's the booboo?
Nothing. Just screams and kicking. It was like she didn't even know we were there.

She finally went to sleep soundly around 5:00 am - I had to get up for work at 5:30 so needless to say, that didn't happen.
She awoke around 7:00 with a smile on her face and normal as can be.

We spent the day together and she's been very normal. I've been scouring the internet trying to figure out what was wrong with her. After my research and talk with my bud Teri, we have decided that it was night terrors. Of course, we did everything wrong - you're not supposed to bother them at all. She didn't have a nap yesterday and sleep deprivation is one of the causes of night terrors.

I always knew naps were important but here's just another reason.

Here's the link to what I've found: http://www.babycenter.com/404_why-is-my-toddler-suddenly-waking-up-hysterical-at-night_1292621.bc

Hope this helps anyone else with this problem.

Poor Kara...and you and Jim for not getting any sleep! We went through this with Christian last February for a couple of weeks and were so concerned because he had always been such a good sleeper. It didn't last long though and thankfully we haven't had any since then. Hopefully it will be the same for you.

Oh that stinks that she had that experience. It does get better my friend's son had them too.

You know, Daniel had a bad dream the night before last and was crying for me and when I got to the hallway he was already barrelingout of his room and into my arms - I wonder if it's a moon thing - that would be better than night terrors or maybe it's a developmental leap coming like the article said. I hope it doesn't happen again and that you can catch up on your sleep.
